Scabies Infection can be a tricky diagnosis as it was in my case.
This is especially true if you have a history of other skin conditions. Initially scabies can act like and resemble eczema so if you have ever struggled with that condition, you may think it’s just a flare up of eczema.
Skin allergies can be another roadblock to proper diagnosis. I went through every possible culprit to try to figure out what was wrong. I switched laundry powder, loaded up on the fish oil and even tried expensive botanical lotions.
Here’s a quick checklist that will help you determine if you have scabies or something else.
Scabies Assessment Questions
1. Does the itch seem to be more prevalent on the hands and wrists?
2. Are small raised pumps present?
3. When the bumps are squeezed, do they emit a clear fluid?
4. Is the itching severe at night?
5. In thicker places of the skin like palms and between fingers are track makes visible (lines where the mites are borrowing under the skin)?
6. Are the itchy places spreading as time goes on?
7. Does the itch become severe in a hot shower or bath?
8. Does the itch prevent sleep?
Conclusions
If you were able to answer yes to most of those, then it’s real important to get to the doctor and begin treatment. Natural remedies are good too and I actually used a combination of the two.
Even if you only said yes to half of the questions, it’s still better to be safe than sorry. I put it off for months and I regret that. It took me a long time to get rid of my scabies infection because of this. The sooner you begin treatment, the better for you and for everyone in your household.
